India Conducts Successful Missile Defense, Naval Strike System Trials

(MENAFN) India announced on Saturday the successful completion of a series of tests involving its multi-layer ballistic missile defense network, alongside the first successful flight trial of a new medium-range naval anti-ship missile.

According to a statement from the Defense Ministry, the trials were carried out by the Defense Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and showcased several advanced technologies designed to strengthen the country's ability to counter a wide range of military threats.

The ministry said that three successive flight tests were conducted on June 10 and 11 to validate a layered defense system capable of intercepting long-range ballistic missiles while also demonstrating anti-ship strike capabilities at medium range.

“Three consecutive flight-tests were conducted on June 10,11 to demonstrate multi-layered defense against long range ballistic missiles and anti-ship capability at medium range,” the ministry said.

Officials stated that the results place India among a select group of countries possessing ballistic missile defense systems capable of engaging threats up to the intercontinental ballistic missile category.

The ministry also confirmed the successful maiden flight test of the Naval Anti-Ship Missile–Medium Range, marking a significant milestone in the development of the country's maritime strike capabilities.

India is considered one of the few nations that maintain a broad missile arsenal covering short-, medium-, and long-range platforms, while continuing to expand its sea-based strategic deterrence capabilities.
